Basement Conversion in South Yorkshire
Toucan Property Maintenance have fully tanked the external walls of this basement conversion in Kimberworth, near Rotherham. Tanking walls provides a barrier to the conditions found under ground level. A new concrete floor was added to level off the room along with adding full damp proofing.
During the conversion, underground windows were unearthed allowing natural light and air flow into the converted cellar. This was done using an external trench dug to the depth of the window. With natural light and air flow in the room the feeling of being underground is largely removed.
One final element of this basement conversion was the discovery of the previously hidden, arched brickwork ceiling. This has now been restored to make a wonderful feature of the newest room in the home.
