Damp Proofing a Sheffield Home
Toucan Property Maintenance has recently been installing a course of damp proofing in Sheffield. As damp proofing specialists in the local area we are experienced in applying damp proofing to homes around South Yorkshire and the challenges they pose.
This property, built on a hill, had a large section of exterior wall built below ground level which resulted in a full tanking process and damp proofing course needing to be applied in order to limit the damage to the properties structure. It is common in these areas of South Yorkshire that we visit to find older properties where the original damp proofing course has cracked or become broken. These cracks allow moisture found an underground level to penetrate the brickwork. This moisture often contains soluble salts which stay within the structure and draw out the moisture creating the damp feeling found on surfaces.
Damp Proofing Specialists
For this property, damp proofing had to be applied to a substantial area of the wall, as seen in the picture above, to repel the damp conditions. Often when damp proofing below ground level there is a significant amount of water found as gravity forces the water down through even the smallest cracks in failed damp courses.
Following the Toucan team adding a new waterproof course to the wall, plastering was added to cover the damp proofing course and smooth over the wall ready for decoration back to it’s previous internal appearance.
